Teppatchi Japanese watercolor

Gansai and Teppachi watercolors are made by thoroughly mixing natural hight-quality starch and nikawa glue with the synthétic colorant used in Suihi and tubed pigments. Although both pigments are put in porcelaine dishes for drying, they are named differently acording to the shape of the dish-those contained in a square dis are called "Gansai" and those in a round one "Teppachi". Characterized by the transparent and light colors, they are used for the following: illustration, haihu paintng, nanga painting, Nihonga, watercolor, and underpainting when mineral pigments are used.
